“Should I purchase the Walt Disney World Memory Maker on my vacation?” This is a question I get pretty often. Usually followed by – “I can bring my own camera or just use my phone.” While the added expense of the Walt Disney World Memory Maker can make people shy away, it really is something that should be considered.
I personally own a nice digital SLR camera and while I’m not a professional, I have done some photo shoots on the side. As we were planning our trip, I contemplated the same thing. Was it worth the price? I could take just as nice a picture as they could, so why would I need to spend the extra money? Luckily, my brother had purchased it and since we were traveling with him and his family, we were included on the Memory Maker. I am so thankful we had it.
First off, I didn’t entirely mind lugging my camera around the park, but I really enjoyed the days we left it at the resort. It saved us from having to carry a bag that would have to be checked as we arrived. There was no need to figure out where we would put it while enjoying our favorite rides. All around, no worries of pulling the camera out and putting it away.
Typically, if you are using your own camera, someone is missing from the photo. While traveling around, there are Cast Members that will take photos with your camera. These are usually the same ones that are taking your photo for the Memory Maker anyway. As a Mom, I caught myself just watching the interaction between my children and the characters, that I missed taking some really neat pictures.
My Husband and I were laughing so hard at how Mike from Monster’s Inc. was checking out our son, that we missed getting these pictures. Thankfully, we had them on the Memory Maker to look back on.
There are also some creative touches that only the Memory Maker can provide. Not only do you the pictures from the rides (some even have a little video clip, like on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Tower of Terror), but you can get the added magic to your photos. There are certain Cast Members around the parks that take the pictures where you’ll be surprised by a Character when you see the final product. Tinkerbell, Olaf, Stitch, even some traveling ghosts. It really is a magical touch.
In my opinion, the Walt Disney World Memory Maker is worth every penny. We will be including it on all of our trips from now on. Not only for the added convenience of not having to worry about taking our own pictures, but for the added touch that comes with the photos.
